From the Back Cover [See About the Author] Read more About the Author Sam Feinstein (1915 - 2003) graduated with honors from thePhiladelphia Museum College of Art, where he later taught and had his firstexhibition in 1934. A revered teacher, he taught privately for over 50 years.Before starting his own classes, he studied with Hans Hofmann in Provincetownfrom 1949 to 1952. In 1950 he made a film of Hofmann creating his painting The Window; the film later debuted atthe Metropolitan Museum of Art. Feinstein helped Hofmann compose his personalessays, reviewed Hofmann's shows in leading art magazines, and wrote acatalogue essay for a 1953 exhibit of Hofmann's landscapes. His insights aboutHans Hofmann--as a person, painter, and teacher--are truly invaluable.  SaschaFeinstein's books include two volumes of poetry (Misterioso and Ajanta's Ledge),two memoirs (Black Pearls: Improvisationson a Lost Year and Wreckage: MyFather's Legacy of Art & Junk), and an interview collection (Ask Me Now: Conversations on Jazz &Literature). In 1996, he founded BrilliantCorners: A Journal of Jazz & Literature, which he still edits. Hishonors include the Pennsylvania Governor's Award for Artist of the Year.
